Event Report
The day began with Mr Casey welcoming all competitors, instructors, and family. He also recognised our referees and judges who were informed of advancing to their next level.
The day started with some of the new Veteran divisions, male/female forms saw Simon Pedelty - Li-Kris-Han Kung Fu placed 1st, Edji Zenel - JKA-SKC 2nd and Jillian Cole - Funakoshi in 3rd. In the male Point Sparring David Johnson - M.A.C.E place 1st, Nick Spanu – GKR, 2nd and Edji Zenel – JKA-SKC, in 3rd. The female Point Sparring saw Jillian Cole - Funakoshi in 1st, Dianne Dean – AWMA in 2nd and Jennifer Sievers – GKR in 3rd place.
Traditional Weaponry 0-12 Years saw Bevan Washington - Shiryado take 1st place and Hunter Connell – Border Karate in 2nd, while the 13-17 years division Alen Dzaferovic – Tenshi Do take 1st place and Noah Ockwell – FX Fitness in 2nd. Our senior division saw Adam Sultana – Katai Bushi Ryu take 1st place, Justin Colbert - AWMA in 2nd and Connor Hunt – Art of Defence in 3rd. Creative Weaponry Extreme Senior Division saw Michael Jones – UMA finish in 1st, while Eli Rose – Beyond Martial Arts finished 2nd.
Other stand out matches of the day.
The Pee Wee forms saw Aleksandar Naumovski – Lions Karate 1st, Julian Zhu – GKR 2nd and Filip Naumovski – Lions Karate 3rd. In their Point Sparring event Mia Liu – M.A.C.E. 1st, 2nd was Aleksandar Naumovski – Lions Karate and 3rd Theodora Foukis – Winged Dragon M/A.
The junior Point Sparring events contained plenty of action and every competitor should be proud how determined they were to do the best they could. It was a great effort by all. With too many to mention a few of the event’s results follow.
In the Point Sparring 8-9 Years (10th- 6th Kyu) – Arjun Annamalai – M.A.C.E 1st, Noah Ismail – M.A.C.E 2nd, – Jasper Snell – Lion Bushido 3rd. Point Sparring 10-11 Years (10th – 6th Kyu) Sage Mueller – M.A.C.E 1st, Joshua Talesvski-Sayed – Lions Karate 2nd, Georgia Hasthorpe – Katai Bushi Ryu 3rd. Female Point Sparring 12-13 Years (5th Kyu – Black Belt), Ellie Richmond – M.A.C.E 1st, Allegra Sajeva – Winged Dragon M/A 2nd, Sienna Draper – M.A.C.E 3rd.
The adults’ divisions were also highly completive and entertaining with numbers increasing from a variety of martial arts schools. It was exciting to watch different forms and sparring techniques go head to head. Both the female and male Black Belt open Forms were incredibly close. For female forms, Voephong Roczniak – GKR 1st and Alexandra Flenley – Northern Goju Karate 2nd and Jillian Cole – Funakoshi 3rd. In the male division Simon Pedelty – Li-Kris-Han Kung Fu placed 1st, Michael Jones - UMA 2nd and Alan Luong – Deshi-Do 3rd.
Once again, we would like to thank everyone that importantly contributes in making our NAS tournaments a success in Victoria. A special mention to Darren Ball for continually providing First Aid, Sandra Schmid for overseeing all table officials, our referees and judges, every competitor and their families, all head instructors and school owners for continuing to bring your students to compete.
