ACT - Round 1
Event Info:

Event Report

As usual, the day of competition started with the demonstration divisions, which were well represented. The traditional weapons demonstrations both in the senior and junior divisions were incredible to watch and bo/staff was the weapon of choice!

It was exciting to see so many students having a go at the point sparring divisions which are continuing to grow steadily! For the first time ever, the sparring divisions outnumbered the continuous sparring divisions, even though the 7-9 years and the 10-11 years continue to be the biggest divisions of the day. Our forms divisions were very popular, and we ran every division, even though the 15-17 years divisions were the smallest. Fingers crossed we can encourage more teens to compete next time! (Individual results and photos of the medal recipients for the divisions can be found on our facebook page, here)

I was impressed with the standard of competition and sportsmanship of all the competitors. Those competitors who agreed to enter additional divisions, following some unexpected withdrawals on the day due to illness, to make sure that their opponents had the chance to compete. This is the perfect example of what true martial arts spirit is all about! Congratulations to you all!

Thank you to the competitors, officials, coaches and mums and dads for your continued support and great sportsmanship! We appreciate you braving the cold, travelling from across the region and doing what was needed on the day to make this a great tournament circuit.

We had officials from a range of styles making this truly an all-styles tournament.  A special thank you to Adam, Steve, Vince, Dean, Rachel, Josh, and Linda for officiating on the day and to Chirs and Vicky for helping at the door. The tournament would not have been a success without you!!

The state championships are scheduled for the 28 August 2022. The entry forms are available from the NAS website. If you would like to officiate or help on the day, please contact me as soon as possible.

And finally, if you have not already, please like the ACT NAS Facebook page, where you can get regular updates on upcoming events and see photos from previous tournaments.

Yours in martial arts.

Mr Glen Gibbons

A.C.T NAS Director.
