Rd 4 Queensland - 10th September 2017



 Excellent turn out for round four!

The day got off to a great start, competitors arriving from all over South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. 8.30am all competitors lined up for the official bow in. There where around 22 different martial art schools attending this round anticipating a great day of competition.

1.  Male’s black belt division was a real heated affair with some excellent standouts

In the forms division Mikey Fleming (Bonsai Karate) took out 1st place with a fine kata/form, 2nd place going to Joshua Wiltshire (RMAA), 3rd place Scott Hampson (Seishin Ryu Karate).  Finals point sparring Joshua Wiltshire was too classy on the day pulling away midway through the match out-scoring his opponent Carl Arganda (Black Eagle Arnis) 3rd place going Scott Hampson.

Veterans form division was taken out by Phyllis Kwok (Brisbane Kung Fu), 2nd place taken out by Scott Hampson (Seishin-Ryu Karate), 3rd place David Hickman (Seishin-Ryu Karate).  Finals men’s veterans point sparring was an excellent bout with neither competitor giving an inch, nearing the end David lunged forward scoring the winning point to take the match, 2nd place going to Richard Marlin & in 3rd place Scott Hampson

2. Demonstrations

Got off to a great start and the spectators were treated to some excellent performances from various styles. Junior synchronised team forms were taken out by Keith Truashiem-Team KenshinKan, 2nd place went to Nhi Dang-Team Seishin Ryu Team GCMAC in 3rd place Harriet Knijff-Team RMAA. Creative Weaponry 0 – 12 years finals, was an all victory for Teams JMAMA) taking out 1st, 2nd & 3rd … well done! Creative Weaponry Senior, 1st place went to Phyllis Kwok (Brisbane Kung Fu).  Traditional Weaponry 0-12yrs, taking out 1st place Racheal Taylor - RMAA, 2nd and 3rd places going in this order to Jakeb Gibbins & Christopher Piccini from (JMAMA).  Traditional Weaponry 13-17yrs taking 1st place went to Jackson Wiltshire, 2nd place to team mate Damien Prins both from (RMAA) in 3rd place Seth Broughton (Lum-Shi Kung Fu), Traditional Weaponry Senior, 1st place going to Phyllis Kwok (Brisbane Kung Fu) with 2nd place going to Joshua Wiltshire (RMAA) , 3rd place Rachel Viegas (RMMA)

Taking out first place in the 7 year old and under point sparring was an all Bonsai Karate victory, 1st place going to Kayla LeVieux, 2nd place Olivia Heath & in 3rd place Elizabeth Reimers

10 to 11 yr 10th – 6th Kyu point sparring final saw Kane Williams (Northern Rivers Shukokai) prove too strong on the day out scoring his opponent Joshua Marheine (Kaos Martial Arts), 3rd place Emily Hill (Kaos Martial Arts)

Finals 10 to 11 yrs 5th Kyu to black belt point sparring finals saw Harriet Knijff (RMAA) put the pressure on midway through the match scoring with fast reverse punches to out score and take the match against Benji DeMilford (Success M/A), 3rd place Evan Schultz (Bonsai Karate)

Female black belt divisions saw some excellent standouts and spirit. Taking out 1st place in forms was Katelyn Webster (KenshinKan) with a polished performance, 2nd place going to Monica deVerteuil (Bonsai Karate), 3rd Mikaela Overton (NKTD). Finals point sparring saw Jakirra Graham (Success M/A) proved too strong on the day defeating Nicki Hodkinson (KenshinKan), 3rd place Mikaela Overton 


We wish to thank all attending clubs and families for making this day a great success and look forward to seeing you all the State Championships 15th October on the Gold Coast at Carrara Indoor Stadium.

3. Queensland - National All Styles - Referees Board:


We wish to sincerely thank all members of the Queensland Referees Board, referees, judges, table officials and helpers for their outstanding contribution to the NAS and the martial art community.


All our Officials, referees, judges and table officials are volunteers who donate their time unselfishly to our sport so our event may run smoothly.  We are fortunate to have some fine martial artists officiating who we include in this report; Mr Ian (Aussie) Pape QLD-TD with Mr Ettore Senatore, Mr Delio Senatore, Mr Mark Stone, Mr Michael Mostyn, Mr Nick Noordink, Mr Richard Nicholls, Mr Jeff Haywood, Mr Errol Singh, Mr Mikey Fleming, Bill Free & Ashley Densmore we sincerely thank you all for your ongoing support to the NAS circuit and the martial art community.

Coaches, competitors & parents be a good sport!


The sport we love relies on volunteers, Officials, Table officials, Staff and helpers who give their time freely for no reward beyond our thanks.  Volunteers are worth their weight in gold.  They share their time and talents without any compensation, so it’s crucial to acknowledge their contribution and let them know they are valued. Thanking them can go a long way towards accomplishing this goal, so it’s worth taking the time to find just the right words to show appreciation … like THANK YOU!


Become a NAS Official or Table Official


The NAS prides itself as among one of the most professional tournament circuits in the Southern hemisphere with over 4000 competitors competing throughout Australia each year. The NAS Australian Referees Board sets one of the highest standards of officiating & accreditation criteria within this country and abroad, adheres to strict guidelines regarding rules & regulations. The NAS code of conduct is to provide all participants with some simple rules concerning the standard of behaviour within the NAS competition.


We invite you to become an NAS Official Instructors, black belts & veteran competitors are welcome to join the NAS referees board and gain State, National and International recognition as an NAS Official


  • The NAS conducts seminar/workshop prior to each event for all NAS Officials and new Instructors attending for the first time. These seminars will cover all rules, regulations and guidelines on NAS competition including code of conduct.
  • The State Technical Director and his team of senior referees/ lecturers will conduct these seminars going over rules and regulations relating to the NAS competition. Point Sparring, Continuous Sparring, Forms, Demonstrations/ Weaponry, ring craft, referees/ judges gestures and signals
  • The Chairman NAS/WASO & Executive committee - NAS Referees Board is responsible for overseeing all State/ National & International events, at all times maintaining the highest standard of officiating.
  • Join our team of highly qualified martial art instructors/ NAS Officials

NAS Officials Oath

We, the NAS Judges, will strive to always uphold the highest standard of integrity, honesty and independence in all matters connected to the NAS tournaments. Amongst other things we shall conscientiously study the NAS rules in order to fully understand and correctly interpret them in the most professional manner. At all times when officiating for the NAS,  we will be independent, impartial, objective and fare; on and off the playing field.
