Meanwhile at our round 1 event we were truly privileged to witness so much talent from all attending styles.

First up in the morning, male black belt open forms competition which was happening while competitors where checking in giving many a good insight into what they might aim for in their martial arts. This division was taken out by MATHEW DENSMORE RMAA Shotokan, 2nd place going to MIKEY FLEMING Bonsai Karate, JASON KING Brisbane Kung Fu. Point sparring being well contested for had the finals go to 1st MATHEW DENSMORE RMAA Shotokan, 2nd LUCAS RADONOVA FSKFA, 3rd TONY TAYLOR RMAA Shotokan

Female black belt open forms in 1st place HARRIET KNIJFF RMAA Shotokan, taking 2nd ALISHA ORMSTON Tai Kai Karate Wado Ryu with 3rd place going to JENNIFER LE Shaolin Kung Fu Guan. Point sparring was taken home in 1st HARRIET KNIJFF RMAA Shotokan, and in 2nd place KAHLIA SMITH Bubishi Martial Arts, taking 3rd ALISHA ORMSTON Tai Kai Karate Wado Ryu.

Veteran forms and point sparring being another keenly fought division. The forms/kata division was taken out by JASON KING Brisbane Kung Fu, runner up MARCELO VEGA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan and in 3rd place PAMELA JIMMINK Bonsai Karate.  Finals male point sparring saw JOZSEF PLANGAR Goshukan Karate proved too strong on the day out scoring his opponent JASON KING Brisbane Kung Fu TONY TAYLOR RMAA Shotokan take home 3rd place. Our female exponents from this aged division had a competitor from many years ago return to take home 1st place, Diane Rivo Hinson KenshinKan Karate with Bonsai Karate team members in 2nd & 3rd place Pamela Jimmink and Lana Carey.

Directly after official bow-in and gratitude extended to all attending the NAS competitors were sent to their nominate rings with their Official’s to begin the tournament. As the morning progressed the rest of the divisions had spectators entertained with some fine performances from the junior and senior demonstrations divisions.

Creative Weaponry Extreme (0-12yrs): saw an abundance of talent from this aged division, we look forward to seeing them grow into their martial art! The finals had team members from Shaolin Kung Fu Guan taking home all placings, 1st place going to Chinmay Kurikala, 2nd Diya Waraich and 3rd Brody Leota Creative Weaponry Extreme (Senior) was another all team win by Shaolin Kung Fu Guan, in 1st place Blake Brown, 2nd place Marcelo Vega and 3rd place Jennifer Le. Creative Weaponry Extreme:13 - 17yrs: JAHNAVI KURIKALA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan. Demonstration: Senior: Team RMAA with the leadership of MATHEW DENSMORE gave spectators and fellow competitors an excellent example of bunkai and its application within the realm of a real fight. Demonstrations:13 - 17yrs: 1st place CARMEN BRYANT Tai Kai Karate Wado Ryu. Traditional Chinese Weaponry - 0 - 10yrs:1st BRODY LEOTA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan, 2nd ANNIKA HEMMING Shaolin Kung Fu Guan and 3rd GEORGE HEMMING Shaolin Kung Fu Guan. Traditional Chinese Weaponry 11 - 17yrs:1st SANDY WILSON Shaolin Kung Fu Guan, 2nd CHINMAY KURIKALA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan and 3rd VINCENT VEGA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan. Traditional Chinese Weaponry – Senior:1st BLAKE BROWN Shaolin Kung Fu Guan, 2nd MATTHEW FAULKNER Brisbane Kung Fu, 3rd MARCELO VEGA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan. Traditional Japanese/Okinawan Weaponry – Junior: 1st OLIVER LOWRY RMAA Shotokan, 2nd SAMANTHA DENSMORE RMAA Shotokan and 3rd NOAH ANDERSON RMAA Shotokan. Traditional Japanese/Okinawan Weaponry – Senior:1st DEAN PRATT Seito Kai Laido, 2nd MATHEW DENSMORE RMAA Shotokan and 3rd HARRIET KNIJFF RMAA Shotokan

Finals, 14 -15yrs (5th Kyu to Blackbelt) forms had the spectators and fellow competitors in awe as one after another, depicting the fighting patterns from their style, however there could only be 3 winners and they were in 1st place SANDY WILSON Shaolin Kung Fu Guan, 2nd place team member JAHNAVI KURIKALA Shaolin Kung Fu Guan and 3rd going to NOAH ANDERSON RMAA Shotokan. Female point sparring saw ELLA BUTLER Tai Kai Karate Wado Ryu take 1st place, ELMA GAUDRON Tatsu Karate Do in 2nd place, with Aaliyah Barrett-Collins Kung fu Southside go home with 3rd. Male point sparring as usual had the young men tussling for the final placings which meant a lot of warnings and even a disqualification but in the end our finals was achieved by in 1st place THOMAS SLOAN Bonsai Karate, 2nd ANGUS COLLEY RMAA Shotokan and 3rd CHRISTIAN MOORE FSKFA.

On another ring we had 16 – 17 years (5th kyu – Blackbelt) with the finals of forms being taken home by, in 1st place OLIVER LOWRY RMAA Shotokan, 2nd place going to SAMANTHA DENSMORE RMAA Shotokan and 3rd place BAILY CURD Bubishi Martial Arts. I can’t believe these young teenagers have been demonstrating their stuff here at the NAS since they were perhaps 5 years of age, we are very privileged to have seen them grow into wonderful young adults. Back to the results. Female point sparring finals had in 1st place SAMANTHA DENSMORE RMAA Shotokan, 2nd CARMEN BRYANT Tai Kai Karate Wado Ryu with ARIELLE EASLEA Legacy MAA Taekwondo take home 3rd place. Male point sparring is as always, keenly contested for, with no major problems the finals was fought for and won by OLIVER LOWRY RMAA Shotokan, 2nd place Tyler Barrett-Collins Kung fu Southside and 3rd place going to BAILY CURD Bubishi Martial Arts

Finals Female Advanced Continuous had HARRIET KNIJFF RMAA Shotokan being given the bout by all three judges with ZEARNA ROGERS MDMMA taking 2nd place, MICHELLE KARAMAN KenshinKan Karate in 3rd place.

Finally, to the NAS Ring and Table Officials, staff and helpers we thank you all for putting on your black and whites and generously give up your day to ensure the NAS competitor has the best tournament experience possible…thank you all so very much.
