Gearing up for the State Championships!

Big numbers of competitors and family members travelled from all over South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales to attend round 4 and last chance to qualify for invite to 2018 State championships. With over 22 different martial art styles attending the days competition, the day was set for an awesome day of martial art competition!

1. Highlights of the day’s competition:

The morning got off to an early start for our male black belt division; In forms Jason King - Brisbane Kung Fu took out 1st place with fine kata/form, 2nd place Dann Luker - Renbukan, 3rd place Scott Hampson –Seishin Ryu Karate Do. Finals point sparring saw Joshua Wiltshire - RMAA Shotokan was too classy on the day pulling away midway through the match out-scoring his opponent Bevan Bell – Seishin Ryu Karate Do, 3rd place going to Troy Walton - GKR

Veterans form division was taken out by Phyllis Kwok – Brisbane Kung Fu, 2nd place taken out by Scott Hampson –Seishin Ryu Karate Do, 3rd place Jason King – Brisbane Kung Fu. Finals men’s veterans point sparring was an excellent bout with neither competitor giving an inch, nearing the end Jason King - Brisbane Kung Fu lunged forward scoring the winning point to take the match, 2nd place going to Tony Taylor – RMAA Shotokan & in 3rd place Geraint Mathias – RMAA Shotokan. In the female finals saw Linda DeMilford – Success Martial arts prove too strong on the day defeating team mate Nai-Ari Conlan, 3rd place Tina Kasparian – Bonsai Karate

Demonstrations got off to a great start and the spectators were treated to some excellent performances from various styles. Junior synchronised team forms were taken out by Team Seishin-Ryu Karate, 2nd place Team Bonsai Karate. The senior team division saw mixed team 1st place Team GKR, 2nd place Seishin-Ryu Karate, 3rd place team Bonsai Karate. Extreme Creative Weaponry 0-12yrs: 1st place Tarli Prodger – Success Martial arts, 2nd place Christopher Piccini - JMAMA, 3rd place Robert Bridge – JMAMA. Traditional Weaponry 0-12yrs, had a great array of styles, however there could only be 3 winners, in 1st place Tarli Prodger, 2nd place Oliver Lowery - RMAA Shotokan victory, 3rd place Christopher Piccini - JMAMA. Traditional Weaponry 13-17yrs taking 1st place Rachel Taylor - RMAA Shotokan victory, 2nd place Mathew Densmore - RMAA Shotokan. Traditional Weaponry Senior, 1st place went to Clayton Hiller - JMAMA, 2nd place going to Joshua Wiltshire - RMAA Shotokan. 3rd place Jason King – Brisbane Kung Fu

As usual the junior divisions where hotly contested for and these little pocket rockets are always full of energy which permeates through to the crowd. Taking out first place in the 7-year-old and under Forms saw Lilly Mitbauer - Brisbane Kung Fu take home 1st place, 2nd place Alexandria Heaton - Renbukan, 3rd place Zoe Petrie - J.M.A.M.A. Point sparring final saw team members from Renbukan take home in 1st place Alexandria Heaton - Renbukan with team mate Eduardo Moraes in 2nd place, Oliver Griffin – RMAA taking home 3rd place.

10 to 11 yr 10th – 6th Kyu point sparring final saw RMAA Shotokan victory out-scoring his rivals and taking 1st place Emmanuel Quinn against Isabella Kasparian – Bonsai Karate in 2nd place, 3rd place going to Caitlin Greig - RMAA Shotokan. Finals 10 to 11 yrs 5th Kyu to black belt point sparring finals saw Maria Nguyen - Seishin Ryu Karate Do put the pressure on midway through the match scoring with fast reverse punches to outscore and take the match against Evan Schultz - Bonsai Karate. Maria was the victor this time taking home 1st place, Evan 2nd, 3rd place going to Darcy Noller - Renbukan 

Spectators were treated to some fine performances from the Female black belt forms competition, taking out 1st place with a fine form/kata, Pania Casey-Williams - KenshinKan Karate, 2nd place going to Phyllis Kwok - Brisbane Kung Fu, 3rd place Michelle Piccini - J.M.A.M.A. Finals point sparring saw both participants giving it their all in the end Pania Casey-Williams – KenshinKan proved too strong on the day out scoring her opponent Monica de Verteuil – Bonsai Karate taking home 2nd place.

We wish to thank all attending clubs and families for making this day a great success and look forward to seeing you all at Queensland State titles, Sunday 21st October on the Gold Coast.

 Queensland - National All Styles - Referees Board:

We wish to sincerely thank all members of the Queensland Referees Board, referees, judges, table officials and helpers for their outstanding contribution to the NAS and the martial art community.

 

All our Officials, referees, judges and table officials are volunteers who donate their time unselfishly to our sport, so our event may run smoothly. We are fortunate to have some fine martial artists officiating who we include in this report; Mr Ian (Aussie) Pape QLD-TD with Mr Michael Mostyn, Mr Ettore Senatore, Mr Delio Senatore, Mr Nick Noordink, Mr Richard Nicholls, Mr Mikey Fleming and Bill Free, Ashley Densmore we sincerely thank you all for your ongoing support to the NAS circuit and the martial art community.

 

Queensland NAS ARB could not run these events without the services of our table officials … mums, dads, sons/daughters & competitors who give their time freely to manage table official duties, big thank you to QLD Senior Table Official Mrs Caroline Kennedy who has done an outstanding job with the assistance of Ms Tia Butler, Rick Wiltshire, Sarah Healy & Lana Wilson

The sport we love relies on volunteers, Officials, Table officials, Staff and helpers who give their time freely for no reward beyond our thanks. Volunteers are worth their weight in gold. They share their time and talents without any compensation, so it’s crucial to acknowledge their contribution and let them know they are valued. Thanking them can go a long way towards accomplishing this goal, so it’s worth taking the time to find just the right words to show appreciation … like THANK YOU!

 

Become a NAS Official or Table Official

 

The NAS prides itself as among one of the most professional tournament circuits in the Southern hemisphere with over 4000 competitors competing throughout Australia each year. The NAS Australian Referees Board sets one of the highest standards of officiating & accreditation criteria within this country and abroad, adheres to strict guidelines regarding rules & regulations. The NAS code of conduct is to provide all participants with some simple rules concerning the standard of behaviour within the NAS competition.

 

We invite you to become an NAS Official Instructors, black belts & veteran competitors are welcome to join the NAS referees board and gain State, National and International recognition as an NAS Official

  • The NAS conducts seminar/workshop prior to each event for all NAS Officials and new Instructors attending for the first time. These seminars will cover all rules, regulations and guidelines on NAS competition including code of conduct.
  • The State Technical Director and his team of senior referees/ lecturers will conduct these seminars going over rules and regulations relating to the NAS competition. Point Sparring, Continuous Sparring, Forms, Demonstrations/ Weaponry, ring craft, referees/ judge’s gestures and signals
  • The Chairman NAS/WASO & Executive committee - NAS Referees Board is responsible for overseeing all State/ National & International events, always maintaining the highest standard of officiating.
  • Join our team of highly qualified martial art instructors/ NAS Officials

 Incentives joining NAS ARB:

  a)The NAS sets one of the highest standards of officiating in this country.

         b)Officials level of accreditation ranges from Level 1 through to Level 4 & National trainer

         c)Your school will gain first-hand knowledge on rules & regulations of the NAS competition

         d)Official’s accreditation, certification and tie are free of charge

         e)Family member’s free spectator entry into NAS competition

 Note! State Director will choose a different Official each tournament

No joining fee - for membership or accreditations into the NAS-ARB

NAS Officials Oath

 

We, the NAS Judges, will strive to always uphold the highest standard of integrity, honesty and independence in all matters connected to the NAS tournaments. Amongst other things we shall conscientiously study the NAS rules to fully understand and correctly interpret them in the most professional manner. At all times when officiating for the NAS, we will be independent, impartial, objective and fare; on and off the playing field.
