NAS QLD, 24 years and still going strong! We are gearing up for a spectacular 2015 National Championships, being held on the Gold Coast in December

Would also like to thank all the mums & dads for bringing their children to every event and giving their support and applause not only to their school/club but also all other attending martial art schools/clubs … great Australian sportsmanship.

Male black belt divisions where among the highlights of the morning with some real standouts. Male black belt forms Jason King Brisbane Kung Fu won the votes from all judges with an excellent form to take 1st place, 2nd place going to Mark Stone Seishin Zen Ryoku, 3rd place Laurence Smith Kenshinkan.   Male black belt point sparring final was a heated affair with Mark Stone coming up against Laurence Smith, both fighters exchanged excellent combinations during the bout scoring points from the judges, midway through the match Mark being the much taller fighter used his reach to his advantage scored in quick succession to pull away on points to take the match, 2nd place Laurence, 3rd place Martyn Fleming (Bonsai Karate)

Veteran’s form division was another highlight of the morning. Jason King Brisbane Kung Fu was too strong on the day winning all votes from judges to take out 1st place, 2nd place going to Julie-Ann Bell Bubishi M/A, 3rd place Bill Free GKR. Finals female point sparring saw Julie-Ann Bell Bubishi M/A take out 1st place, 2nd place Silvia Sanjurjo Seishin-Ryu Karate, 3rd place Deborah Lindsay Success M/A. Men’s final Shayne West Success M/A proved to strong on the day taking out 1st place, 2nd place Bill Free, 3rd place Jason Paterson Success M/A <

Demonstrations got off to a great start and the spectators where treated to some excellent performances from various styles.

Junior synchronised team forms were taken out by A-team KenshinKan, 2nd place Team Seishin Zen, 3rd place B-team Kenshinkan. The senior male team division was won by team Seishin-Ryu taking out 1st & 2nd. Extreme Creative Weaponry 0-12yrs, 1st , 2nd & 3rd places was taken out by Teams ATA. Extreme Creative Weaponry 13-17yrs, 1st , 2nd & 3rd places was taken out by Teams ATA. Traditional Weaponry 0-12yrs, Taking out 1st place Rachael Taylor Seishin Zen Ryoku, 2nd place Alexander Storoy Bubishi M/A, 3rd place Michaela Soner Seishin Zen Ryoku. Traditional Weaponry 13-17yrs taking 1st place Tiana Sing Gold Coast Martial Centre, 2nd place Curtis Reck Bubishi M/A, 3rd place Rachel Viegas Seishin Zen Ryoku. Traditional Weaponry Senior, 1st place went to Kristel Suess Tetsuya Karate, 2nd place Jason King Brisbane Kung Fu, 3rd place Patricia Tan Kyokushin Lismore

Finals 7 years & under divisions, taking out 1st place in the forms was Declan Uppington Brisbane Kung Fu , 2nd place going to team mate Seth Pinnow, 3rd place Victoria Knijff Seishin Zen Ryoku. Final point sparring saw Samantha Densmore Seishin Zen Ryoku come up against Chicaine Williams KenshinKan…talk about non stop action for 1 ½ minutes both these competitors went point for point right to the bell in the end Samantha lunged forward scoring with a reverse punch to take the point and match, 2nd place Chicaine Williams, 3rd place Kalon Davis Success M/A

Finals of the 12 to 13 years 10th – 6th Kyu point sparring division, Ashley Garner Seishin Zen Ryoku came up against Kurt Klenz KenshinKan, both boys were evenly matched executing fine leg and hand techniques, towards the end of the match Ashley scored in quick succession pulling away on points and taking the match, Kurt 2nd place, 3rd place Jesiah Nettlefold ATA M/A

Female black belt divisions saw Kristel Suess Tetsuya Karate take out the forms competition, 2nd place going to Melissa Senatore Seishin Ryu Karate, 3rd place Patrisha Kay KenshinKan. Final of the point sparring was a fiery affair with all girls out to take State titles status in the end Kahlia Smith Bubishi M/A came up against arch rival Nicki Hodkinson KenshinKan, both girls came out scoring in quick succession with reverse punches however Kahalia began to find her mark and pulled away on points to take out the title 2nd place going to Nicki, 3rd place Merinda Folkard Bubishi M/A

Male advanced continuous final saw Blayd Tunstall KenshinKan come up against Christopher McNeilly Seishin Zen Ryoku, both men worked the ring well and were cautioned by the referee to control their contact, midway through the match Blayd used his reach and ring to his advantage to win the votes from all judges taking out 1st place, 2nd place Christopher, 3rd place Martyn Fleming

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 2015 NAS National Championships being held at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium…it is going to be one great fantastic weekend of martial art competition …GO NAS QUEENSLAND!!!

On a final note…martial arts begins and ends with courtesy regardless of style, rank or creed…definition of a true champion is one who wins and losses with dignity & respect!
