 A.C.T Regional Championship Report

The 2017 A.C.T NAS grew by 25% from 2016!

This steady growth is very exciting and I have already been contacted by Martial Arts Clubs from a variety of styles looking forward to the next round. A lot of clubs, after witnessing this event have promised to get involved next year. I look forward to 2018 being our best year yet!

The competitors, coaches and spectators who attended our tournament this year, mentioned it was great to see so many different styles come together and get along in the spirit of competition.

The atmosphere before any NAS Tournament is always filled with excitement, anticipation and adrenalin, and the ACT NAS Round 1 Tournament at Daramalan College in Dickson on Sunday 17th July was no exception! Adding to the excitement was the presence of a number of first time competitors who were made very welcome by the camaraderie of our regulars. My opening address gave me the opportunity to welcome everyone, from Pee Wees to Veterans. Many had travelled long distances to be part of the action. It was great to see the eagerness in the competitors and judges alike, and all were keen to get the action underway!

Highlights and standouts of the day's competition

After the official bow in, officials prepared themselves for a long day of nonstop action, with three rings ready to run but only enough officials to run two. With a bit of changing events to different rings for the movement to two rings, the spectators witnessed some fantastic weapons displays from Sensei David Rush of Shotokan Nowra but formally a local instructor and student. Up against David were local competitors from Shokukai under the tutelage of Sensei Ivan Mehkek, Sebastian Hood and Kunnal Khiatani. They are truly wonderful martial artists and cannot wait for them to display their talents at the Nationals. With this move, we saw the Pee Wee's take to the floor and we are extremely proud to see these juniors get up and show off their moves.
